MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS WEEK - HOW DO YOU COPE WITH STRESS?



To celebrate Mental Health Awareness Week, North Tyneside organisations band together and renamed it Mental Health Action Week with the intention of hosting events to promote that people actually take action around mental health rather than purely raising awareness.

One of these events was at North Shield’s YMCA and launched a new leaflet with Launchpad and Healthwatch. LEAPS were, luckily, approached by Launchpad to have our details published in the leaflets that were full of independent organisations and charities to refer service users to.


With this year’s Mental Health Awareness Week being centred around stress, we asked people at the event to answer the simple question:

HOW DO YOU COPE WITH STRESS?

Here’s some of the answers:

Stress is not something I’m aware of

Exercise and mindfulness

Exercise or sleep

Try to forget about it and play darts

I try to turn to my preferred communication method; BSL and sign songs

Talk with friends, family and laugh

Gym, time with loved ones and comedy

Smoke too much (something we do not recommend!) and walk the dog

Keep busy and think positively

Do yoga, spend time with friends, and walk the dog

I confide in friends

Keep in touch with friends

Relax

Exercise, see my friends, spend time with my pets, and have some alone time

I use the gym

I go cycling or do some photography

I read or listen to music

Get out of the house and go for a walk

Take deep breaths

Mindfulness – I like to go to the coast and nature reserves

I read and watch DVDs

Exercise

Go camping and walking

Attend an exercise class

I run, cycle, and swim!
